Friends of UNESCO led dialogue on the struggles of Afro-Colombian women

Within the framework of the Global Dialogues, the Friends of UNESCO Corporation played a leading role in organizing the event "The struggles of Afro-Colombian, Black, Raizal, and Palenquero women," a gathering that highlighted the progress, challenges, and political commitments of these women in Colombia.

This dialogue was carried out in coordination with partner organizations such as:

  • ILEX Legal Action
  • AMUAFROC – Association of Afro-Colombian Women
  •  MUDE – Diverse Women

Together, these organizations shared perspectives on reproductive justice, territorial defense, political participation, and historical reparation, highlighting the importance of coordination between community movements, institutions, and international cooperation to address contexts of violence and discrimination.

A presence that strengthens the Afro-Colombian agenda on the international stage

The participation of the Friends of UNESCO Corporation in this meeting reaffirms its commitment to:

  • The defense of the rights of Black women, women of African descent, Raizal women, and Palenquera women.
  • Strengthening regional and global networks for political advocacy.
  • Promoting racial justice and dignity for people of African descent in Colombia and Latin America.

A historic march

The event culminated on November 25 with a mass mobilization at the Esplanade of Ministries in Brasilia, where more than 300,000 women and allies gathered to demand comprehensive justice, peace, and dignified life for Black and racialized communities around the world.
